Vlkolinec is a settlement of around 50 log houses with the traditional features of a central European mountain village. As a remarkably intact assemblage of folk architecture, Vlkolinec was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.First mentioned in writing in 1376, the village became part of the town of Ruzomberok in 1882. Its name is probably derived from Slovak vlk i. e. wolf.
